Let the sunshine in: SGB invests in renewable energy

Created by SGB GmbH |

Following hybrid company cars, paperless offices and improved workstation lighting, the investment in a photovoltaic plant is another step toward a modern and environmentally friendly company.

112 state-of-the-art photovoltaic modules, around 1,000 m of solar cable, 2 inverters. The job: Three days of installation work at a lofty height and two further days inside the building for internal wiring and commissioning of the new low voltage mains supply. The result: SGB now produces its own electricity – environmentally friendly and cost efficient via solar plant.

The new PV plant was commissioned just in time for the sunny summer days in 2019. More than one hundred photovoltaic modules were installed on SGB’s flat roof – module inclination 11°, placed upright on stands facing East-West. Through over 1,000 m of solar cable these modules now supply the two inverters at NSHV. The first results after just four weeks are impressive. 3,657 KWh was produced in July 2019. Of this amount, SGB used 2,505 for its own operations and sold 1,152. The aim is to lower the annual average electricity costs by 60% to 70% and at the same time save 13t to 15t CO2.

As part of our drive to use our resources diligently and sustainably, the investment in the photovoltaic plant is not the first measure implemented by SGB.

The first steps were taken several years ago when looking for a new company car for the daily courier trips. A hybrid car was chosen for this job, which is still being driven today.
Further energy-saving measures were implemented by cutting back on office materials (keyword: “paperless office”), deliberately selecting local suppliers, choosing the train whenever possible for business trips, and replacing the 80 grid lamps in the office with energy-saving LEDs in order to head further toward the overall objective of comprehensive sustainability.
